Piet Mondrian (Dutch, 1872–1944)
Composition with Red, Yellow, and Blue
1927
Piet Mondrian's 'Composition in Red, Yellow, and Blue' (c. 1927) is one of the Dutch master's Neoplastic grids: black bars dividing a white field into primary rectangles. Painted during Mondrian's Paris years, the picture is a characteristic example of his fully mature De Stijl language. Oil on canvas, Cleveland Museum of Art.
