Jean Baptiste Camille Corot (French, 1796–1875)
Pond at Ville-d'Avray
late 1860s
Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot's 'The Pond at Ville-d'Avray' (c. 1870s) depicts the small lake just outside Paris that Corot painted again and again. Feathery willows, silvery water, and a single small figure create the hushed, silvery atmosphere that was the hallmark of his late style. Oil on fabric, Cleveland Museum of Art.
