Odilon Redon (French, 1840–1916)
Vase of Flowers
c. 1905
A vibrant still life of a vase of flowers by the French Symbolist painter Odilon Redon (1840–1916), painted in the 1900s when Redon turned decisively from his early charcoal 'Noirs' to radiant colour. Against a cool, softly brushed ground, blooms of wild chrysanthemum and daisy hover in Redon's dreamlike bouquet style. The oil on fabric is held by the Cleveland Museum of Art.
