Banks of the Oise at Dawn

1888

Louis Hayet's 'Dawn on the Banks of the Oise' (c. 1892) is a Neo-Impressionist landscape by the painter who studied pointillism alongside Seurat and Pissarro. Built from thousands of carefully juxtaposed dots of complementary colour, the river at first light shimmers with the theoretical optical mixture the movement aspired to. The oil is held by the Cleveland Museum of Art.
