Giovanni Segantini's 'The Pine Tree' (1892) belongs to his series of Symbolist Alpine landscapes. A solitary pine stands against the silver light of the Engadine, painted in the painter's 'divisionist' technique of tiny strokes of pure colour. Oil on fabric, Cleveland Museum of Art.
