Moche North coast
Blackware Vessel in the Form of a Figure Fishing, Possibly Ai-Apec, with a Crab
100 BCE–500 CE
A black-fired Moche stirrup-spout vessel (c. AD 100–700) from Peru's north coast, modelled as the deity Ai-apaec catching a crab and a fish. Ritual ceramics like this one, in the sculptural black-ware reserved for ceremonial use, are characteristic of Moche art and are part of the Art Institute of Chicago's ancient Andean collection.
