Tulips

1995-2004

Produced by Jeff Koons between 1995 and 2004 as part of his 'Celebration' series, 'Tulips' is a mirror-polished stainless steel sculpture that monumentalises a balloon-twist bouquet such as a child might make at a fairground. The seven petals are finished in transparent automotive paint in vivid primary colours, while the reflective surface turns every viewer into a momentary part of the sculpture. At once kitsch, luxurious, and knowingly public, 'Tulips' is a definitive Koons of the late 1990s and sold at auction in 2012 for over USD 33 million.
