Bosphorus View
2000s
A thematic section of Istanbul Modern's permanent display devoted to the Bosphorus in the work of 20th- and 21st-century Turkish artists, including paintings, photographs, and video installations by figures such as Orhan Pamuk (from his writer's photographic series), Aydın Üşenmez, Taner Ceylan, and Elif Uras. The changing waterfront, the passage between Europe and Asia, and the erosion of Ottoman-era shoreline communities under modernisation recur across the works. The gallery ends at a window onto the actual strait — a final 'view' that completes the themed wall.
