The Walters Art Museum houses one of the world's finest collections of illuminated manuscripts. This Book of Hours, created in Bruges, features exquisite miniature paintings with vibrant colors and gold leaf. Books of Hours were personal prayer books used by wealthy laypersons in medieval and Renaissance Europe. Each page is a masterwork of miniature painting, calligraphy, and decorative borders.
