Unknown (Gandharan)
Seated Buddha
c. 2nd–3rd century AD
This Gandharan Buddhist sculpture blends Greco-Roman artistic traditions with Indian religious iconography, reflecting the cultural crossroads of ancient Pakistan/Afghanistan along the Silk Road. The Buddha's wavy hair, draped robes, and naturalistic face show clear Greek influence, while the meditation posture and spiritual symbolism remain thoroughly Buddhist. It represents one of the earliest traditions of depicting the Buddha in human form.
