Schirn Kunsthalle — Frankfurt's Curated Voice Beside the Römer
At a Glance
Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt sits beside the Römer in the Old Town. Since 1986 it has operated without a permanent collection, staging 8–10 curated shows a year and drawing around 300,000 visitors annually.
A Postmodern Arcade
Designed by Bangert, Jansen, Scholz, Schultes (1986), the building reads as a 140-metre arcade rather than a block, to respect the surrounding Gothic fabric. Exhibitions run in a 1,700 m² main hall and the Rotunde.
Programme
- Thematic exhibitions like "Vienna 1900," "Art & Madness," "Kahlo & Rivera," "Chagall — Love and War."
- "Double Feature" pairs of emerging artists in the Rotunde (free).
- Digital extensions via Schirn Mag and AR apps.
- Schirn Studio for kids and teens.
Tips
U-Bahn Dom/Römer. Admission €12–€17 depending on the show. Budget 1.5–2 hours. Combine with the Städel Museum for a complete Frankfurt art day.
