Fondazione Prada — Milan, Koolhaas Gilds an Old Distillery
At a Glance
Fondazione Prada sits in Milan's Largo Isarco on a former 1910s gin distillery. Run by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, it opened in May 2015 and is anchored by OMA's gold-leaf "Haunted House" alongside preserved factory buildings and the 2018 white concrete Torre.
From Distillery to Museum
OMA treated each building differently — gold leaf on the Haunted House, raw concrete and polished stone elsewhere. The Torre adds a 60 m, nine-story silhouette to the south Milan skyline, each floor a different height to fit specific works.
Must-See
- Haunted House with permanent Robert Gober and Louise Bourgeois Cells.
- Torre — top-floor Paestum Restaurant with panoramic views.
- Bar Luce by Wes Anderson.
- On-site cinema for experimental screenings.
- Major rotating exhibitions juxtaposing antiquity with contemporary art.
