Madrid's Golden Triangle — Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía in One Day
At a Glance
Within a 500 m stretch of Madrid's Paseo del Prado lies the Golden Triangle of Art: Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Reina Sofía. The €30 Paseo del Arte Pass covers all three and gives access to 1,000 years of Western painting in a day.
How They Complement
Prado (12th–19th century masters), Thyssen (filling the gaps from early Flemish through American modernism), and Reina Sofía (20th-century Spanish art) fit naturally in sequence.
Suggested Route
- 10:00 Prado — Velázquez, Goya, El Greco.
- 12:30 Lunch at Casa Alberto.
- 14:00 Thyssen — chronological 1st–2nd floors; 0th floor modern.
- 16:30 Reina Sofía — Guernica, Dalí, Miró, Gris.
- 19:00 Tapas in Lavapiés.
Tips
All walkable. Paseo del Arte Pass valid one year from purchase. Avoid Mondays (Reina Sofía) and Tuesdays (Prado/Thyssen). UNESCO listed the whole district in 2021.
