Paris: An Exploration of Art Hubs

From June 16 to 20, 2026, an exploration of major art institutions in Paris was conducted. This report documents visits to five significant art spaces, focusing on their locations, history, architecture, and main collections.

Musée de l'Orangerie: Monet's Water Lilies

Located at 20 Quai des Tuileries, 75001 Paris, in the Tuileries Garden, the Musée de l'Orangerie opened in 1927. It is renowned for Claude Monet's monumental "Water Lilies" series, displayed in two oval rooms designed for immersive contemplation with natural light. Other Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works are also featured.

Musée d'Orsay: A Former Train Station for Impressionism

The Musée d'Orsay, at 1 Rue de la Légion d'Honneur, 75007 Paris, on the Seine's left bank, was originally a train station for the 1900 Paris World's Fair. Transformed into a museum in 1986, it houses an extensive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art (1848-1914). Its grand clock and glass ceiling are iconic. Key artists include Monet, Renoir, Degas, Cézanne, and Van Gogh.

Bourse de Commerce: Tadao Ando's Contemporary Vision

The Bourse de Commerce, at 1 All. Baltard, 75001 Paris, is a historic circular building, once the Paris Stock Exchange. Reopened in 2021 as a contemporary art museum, it features a striking renovation by Tadao Ando, who inserted a massive cylindrical concrete structure. It showcases the Pinault Collection, focusing on contemporary and modern art.

Centre Pompidou: Modern Art and Architectural Innovation

The Centre Pompidou, 55 Rue Rambuteau, 75004 Paris, opened in 1977. Designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers, its radical architecture features all functional elements exposed on the exterior. It houses a vast collection of 20th and 21st-century modern and contemporary art. The main building is currently undergoing a long-term renovation, with full closure from late September 2025 and reopening planned for 2030. Check the official website for program locations.
