Dalí Theatre-Museum

The Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, Catalonia, is the largest single repository of works by Salvador Dalí and was personally designed by the artist himself between 1970 and 1974 on the site of the town's 19th-century municipal theatre, where he had held his first public exhibition at age fourteen. The ruined, Civil War-damaged theatre was transformed into a surreal palace crowned with an oversized geodesic dome and punctuated by giant eggs and golden figures along its pink façade. Inside, visitors encounter Dalí's 'total work of art': the anamorphic Mae West room, the Rainy Taxi installation, the Palace of the Wind ceiling, and masterpieces from every period of his career, as well as his crypt in the basement. It is the most visited museum in Catalonia outside Barcelona.
