Museu Berardo

The Museu Coleção Berardo, occupying some 7,000 square metres of the Belém Cultural Centre on the Tagus waterfront in Lisbon, houses one of Europe's most important collections of 20th- and 21st-century art. Assembled by the Portuguese businessman Joe Berardo and opened to the public in 2007, the collection's nearly 900 displayed works trace modernism through Cubism, Futurism, Surrealism, Dada, and Abstract Expressionism to Pop Art, Minimalism, Arte Povera, and contemporary practice — with rooms devoted to Picasso, Duchamp, Mondrian, Pollock, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Bacon, Hockney, and major Portuguese figures such as Paula Rego and Helena Almeida. Admission is free, making the Berardo one of Lisbon's most accessible cultural landmarks.
