Henie Onstad Kunstsenter

Founded in 1968 on the shores of the Oslofjord in Høvikodden, the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter was created around the collection of figure-skating triple Olympic champion Sonja Henie and her husband, shipowner Niels Onstad, becoming Norway's first institution devoted to international modern and contemporary art. The low-slung white building by architects Jon Eikvar, Sven Erik Engebretsen, and Jan Inge Hovig sits amid a sculpture park overlooking the fjord. Highlights of the collection include major works by Picasso, Matisse, Miró, Klee, Munch, and key pieces from the Fluxus movement and early video art, while the museum's temporary program has become a leading platform for contemporary performance, experimental music, and Nordic photography.
